I hated the cooler seat on my skiff for two reasons: first it wasn't secure and would always move around in the cradle that it was mounted in. Second, it was too low for my liking. I couldn't see anything seated in it driving. I had this guy in SC (Martin Marine Design) make me a couple brackets to mount the cooler seat to, in order to raise it up about 11" and keep it secure (not whobbly). He also made me a bar to attach rod holders to so I could have some extra rod holder storage behind the seat. It's not my ideal setup, but it is a big improvement over the old standard cooler seats in the skiffs and much, much cheaper than a leaning post would have been and I didn't lose all of the storage space the cooler seat provides. An additional benefit was I gained added storage underneath the cooler seat also. I've had it on there about a couple years now I think and it's held up just fine..no problems at all. Martin Marine does excellent work and he's very creative. Here's a few pictures of the mod...sorry my boat pretty much stays dirty! Old setup.. ![](http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r307/Tgearly/Boat/0407001720.jpg) ![](http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r307/Tgearly/Boat/0407001749.jpg) ![](http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r307/Tgearly/Boat/0407001906.jpg) ![](http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r307/Tgearly/Boat/0408001345.jpg) ![](http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r307/Tgearly/Boat/0408001439.jpg) ![](http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r307/Tgearly/Boat/0408001423.jpg) My next modification may be to take the backrest and the lid to the cooler off. Then add a piece of starboard as a lid and mount two comfortable seats to that. Either that or I'm going to rip it all out and put my tank back there with a seat mounted on top of it. The above deck wire tunnel presents some problems with that though.

Nice job, that wire tunnel is always in the way, seems like they would put a pipe in the deck when they form it and get it off the deck.

They do now. My year skiff was the last of the above deck tunnel. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)
