10-9, One 15-16 lb. striper above Moorman's at cliffs. 450 Penn Spinfisher Graphite, 7' Abu Garcia 5 Star rod, 8 lb. Trilene XL, 3/8 oz. jig, 3" pearl shad. Fish hit under surface shad about 10 foot down. Long fight but a bunch of fun. Catch & release.
While I'm at it, 10-2, one 4.4 pound smallmouth below Moorman's & the mud banks. 430 Penn Spinfisher, 5' Shimano rod, 6 lb. Trilene XL, 1/8 oz. jig, 4" Smoke Spring Grub. Another great fight. After weighing this one went back.
Lake fishing is new to me. I fish New River from the Va. line to Prince mostly mainly for smallmouth.

I'm a poor one to ask but probably could see my jig down to 5 foot or so.

Guessed it might be a little muddy as the river at Salem was muddy the first of the week. Thanks for the info.

Nice catch - that's a blast on light tackle / line like that. Too much timber for me to trust 8 lb test

I lose a fish now & then but really enjoy the challenge or lighter line. BTW I believe the water was darker as the week went on. I left Friday & was planning to return Monday but preaching appointments & bullet orders have me covered up for a few days.
