Sat. morning. Air temp at 5:30 was about 63 and the water temp was about 73. Was able to get enough bait off the end of the dock in the morning, did have to pick through a lot of peanuts. Fished Gills Creek in 30 – 35 FOW. Plenty of fish in 15-25 FOW and early morning they were feeding. Set out the planner boards, down lines and free lines and that was the last time I touched the planners. All the fish came off down lines and nothing interested in the planners. Boated 8 stripers and 3 catfish which helps keep things interesting. All nice fish with a couple approaching 30’. I can’t seem to find the time to take the pictures; I’m always in a big hurry to get the fish back in the water. Fished from first light to about 11:00 and only saw one other boat. The weather felt more like early Sept instead of early Oct. An amazing day to be on the water.

Thanks for the report Emmitt. I think that boat you saw was mine. For the last 8-10 days I've been getting skunked in that area using artificials on planer boards. I'll have to try downlines. Went out last night and trolled artificials from B 28 down to B 11 and not a single bite. Something has changed in the lake at least the way I have been fishing it.

Nice report Emmitt...last weekend I found fish at staniford and cliffs....gotta believe they're moving upriver sometime soon? I still saw a few boats working the 3 islands but nobody was doing much. Were you above the Gills S curve?.....there were clouds of bait in the bait bowl last weekend too...but all peanuts.....spent a few hours in the back of silver creek this afternoon throwing my net 750 times....caught a few big shad and a handful of alewives.
Bought a new bait pen from Hawk at Capt. Qtrs today....36''diameter X 6'....he builds them right....hoping the dropping water temps will let them stay alive longer then 6 hours....would love to fill it for the coming weekend....tight lines...

Thanks Emmit. I'm heading back to the lake in a couple of days and my place is near the area you posted. Who knows? Things could change drastically with this cool snap.
