Greetings,
Well I finally caught up with a buddy to take him out...his 1st fishing of the year. Had high hopes of putting him on some fish and the lake did not disappoint.
The lake seemed VERY shallow...almost 2 ft below normal. Water temp about 78 deg. Bait was heavily scattered. Went to my usual haunts to find 1 nice school..The rest seemed to be in very small schools??? Headed up lake a bit and located a TON of top water action. Im assuming they were stripers but couldnt tell...wish I had some artificial with me as they were going to town...saw this throughout the lake...
Finally located shad mid lake.. weird as my 1st toss landed a crap ton of alewives...and my 2nd and 3rd a nice dozen of gizzards..almost like they were hanging together...I wish I could meet the douche bag and his friend that came screaming into a cove as I was throwing...he looked right at me with a net in hand as he sent swells...bastard...
After the bait headed to my new hot spot..wouldnt ya know I was greeted by 3 boats ..2 trolling and another hanging close by? A hhmm hmmm wonder how they discovered this spot.. I wish the 1 troller had a little more common sense...came within 50 yards or so of me twice...
Anyways...had 6 solid strikes..my buddy missed 5 fish...way too ancy...I felt bad for him in all honesty. I landed the 6th a nice 5.5lb 24"...swallowed the hook
I will say I switched to braid from fluorocarbon and it seemed like the hooksets were a little more difficult..is that normal?
So ..yep their still biting and within the same area...

I realize (as has been said) the lakes are here to share but just a little bit of respect for your other boaters/fisherman can go a long way...
