Okay, I went out over the weekend and had, what I consider, pretty good luck trolling u-rigs. Went Tuesday 08/20 and had the proverbial skunk in the boat. But, I did mark several fish in 50 to 60 fow and witnessed several fish crashing bait on the surface. I didn't have a casting rod with me so, I sat and watched. Won't make that mistake again. That being said, I was intrigued by the idea of jigging for striper after my trip and was wondering what type of rod/reel combo, action , line, leader and jigs you folks may use for this. As always, Thanks for your help. Gator

I use spinning or smaller body line counter reels (like an Abu 5500LC) with braid and flouro leader and graphite or hybrid rods in the MH range. Typically use 1/2 or 3/4 oz triangle white jig heads with a pearl or "white ice" fluke, or occassionally a spoon.
With decent sonar you can watch your jig and put it right on fish. The line counter is nice if you have multiple folks and everyone can't get right under the sonar cone.

I use a Rod I built specific for jigging with an Abu 6500 C4 spooled with braid and floro leader. But I am thinking going to a low profile baitcast reel. I use the same Jig head that mward is using and white fluke. I just use the FF to watch what depth I am putting it at.
