8/3 James River Trip

Family camped for the weekend at Jelly stone campground in Natural bridge so I put a small group of friends and family together for a float. To include myself, my father-in-law, Bob and his son and granson, Gary, and Jim. Did a 8.5 mile float that I love to do from the Alpine put-in back down to the campground. Water conditions were perfect, clear water perfect temp and flow. Tried several lures at first to see what it was going to take that day. Tried KVD square bill's, Wee Craw, and a couple of other small cranks and top water with nothing. So I swapped back to my go to on the rivers, 3" and 4" plastic grubs in Punkin/chartreuse on a 1/16 jig head. I wound up catching 27 total for the day. Nothing monster. Had a very fat 13.5" and a large creek chub. The largest out of everyone was a 17.5" that my father in law caught on the same plastic grub. He wound up with 24 for the day. In the end everyone wound up borrowing the plastic grub and jig head I was using to catch their fish. And have placed an order for when I am at Bass Pro in a couple of weeks All in all it was a good trip and I think everyone that fished caught fish.

my wife,kids and myself done the same stretch of the river saterday, cought about the same with one about three pounds,most where cought on a white fluke weightless around the moving water.
