I pulled alewifes around the cove starting at 5:00 am until around 9:00. Caught 7 stripers ranging from about a pound up to 8. They struck all different depth. The biggest hit a free line, though it'd been stationary long enough to have sunk. That's a good morning for my fish-finderless boat. Kind of surprising for as busy as the boat traffic has been lately.
Anyone else have luck today?

I'm in eastern NC for the holiday. But I am getting to chase speckled trout. I will say I would rather be catching stripers...thanks for the report!

Fished yesterday and Thursday in Stoney. Thankfully bait was very easy since the ales died quickly, not to mention we had more missed hook-ups than landed fish. Mostly hit on planar boards, with biggest fish and best hits coming of a 1 oz weighted planar board. Down lines did nothing, light lines had very little action except for a white perch and a stolen big shad. The fish seemed to quit biting after 8:00, so getting out early was unfortunately crucial.
Did anyone get far enough upstream to witness the wall of trash floating slowly down the lake? It was just about to Beaverdam on Thursday afternoon, I've never seen debris so thick on the lake before

I did and it had made it to the curve downstream of beaver dam. Saw a stump at least 5 feet in diameter floating on Sat. It was a mess.
Sunday water had cleared...a little. Most of the trash had been washed to the shore by the wind and boat traffic. Agree, never seen that much junk in the water. No night cruising for us
