The storm we had come through the other day took down one of our neighbors trees, which in turn took out my motorcycle and boat. Homeowners insurance won't cover the boat because it wasn't in an "enclosed structure". Needless to say, I'm out a boat. I just had the seats reupholstered a year ago, the motor (inboard volvo 3.0), outdrive, power trim, trailer, and all that stuff is good. Just the hull is trash. If it ever stops raining I'll take pics and put the boat up on craigslist for parts. Where can I get rid of the hull after everything is stripped? I thought about East Coast Salvage, but they're closed today. I'm just looking for some ideas at the moment. I appreciate the help! What really hurts is I basically had the boat sold, just had to wait 'till the guy came back from vacation next week. BTW, it's a '91 Bayliner Capri, 19'. It also has a custom made mount for the trolling motor and a custom made platform for the front bow section for fishing. The boat motor runs perfect, so if anyone is interested, just let me know!

Can't help on the hull disposal but - Ouch - that sucks - sorry to hear about it Ckid - especially since you had it sold.
Guess there is another project boat in your future?

Only thing I know you can do with a old hull is saw it up and take it to the landfill. This your homeowner insurance or his, either case I think I would check with a lawyer and see what they say. I really don't see what a "enclosed structure" has to do with it. I think if you push it they will have to pay.

We had a neighbors tree fall on our property a few years back and do about $10,000 in damage. It was covered under our home owners insurance I think and I think that's the norm unless you can prove the tree was a danger of falling previously, which you basically can't now. I might push a little harder though and see what happens if there's enough money involved.

I would give up on it that easy, Talk to a lawyer,be cheaper than replacing a boat. I'd take it to the landfill.

I agree with everyone man you should challenge your homeowners insurance. Did you have a cover over the boat, or on the boat? That in itself is and "enclosed structure". These companies will do anything they can to not pay you.

Just like everyone else said, push back on the insurance company. Either boat insurance or homeowners. Sounds like they are just trying to get out of forking over the money. If they push back then I would be getting a lawyer. You can also file a BBB complaint which sometimes helps get things moving in the right direction.

I didn't have boat insurance. I thought if it was on my property it would be covered under my homeowners ins. just it's covered by auto ins. when towing. The only advantage I saw to insurance was if I was on the lake and struck another vessel or sank it on a shoal. Being I'm a safe boater and don't drink while operating, It was a chance I was willing to take. The insurance company said if I had it in an enclosed structure, i.e. garage, and a tree fell through the garage and damaged the boat it would have been covered, but being it was sitting in my driveway next to the carport it wasn't covered. The adjuster is supposed to come back out, and I'll plead my case again. Valuable lesson learned here. Also, for future reference, it a neighbor's tree falls in your yard, you are responsible for any damage on your property. I thought I'd be able to claim the damage on my neighbor's policy, but no go. Another valuable lesson learned. The only way I could have claimed it was to send a certified letter to my neighbor stating the tree was a hazard and to please have it removed (obviously before it came crashing down). Being the tree looked healthy, I didn't perceive any danger from it. Oh well, next boat will be insured.

Sorry I did't see that this is your first post, Welcome to the forum and hope something works out on the boat Thanks CG, actually I'm not 'new, new'. I used to post on here a lot a few years back, then I got working third shift and my Striper fishing became very limited, so I just didn't post much, but still got on as a 'guest' to read the threads. I had to renew my password to get back on and I guess since it's been awhile, it reset my post count. Anyhow, thanks again!

You know I really appreciate you straightening that out Mike. Hopefully now everyone realizes that all those offensive posts were really just a distortion of what Bigun and I really posted after being altered by the moderators. I was shocked enough that our messages of love and brotherhood were vandalized in the first place but this makes it better. Thanks for stepping up and taking the higher road!
