What would you recommend for surf fishing in the 100.00 to 200.00 range or less if there is good gear gor under 100.00. Spinning gear preferred. Thanks for any and all help.

If you are going to Hatteras stop at one of the tackle shops, Frank & Frans in Avon or Red Drum in Bruxton both are very good and will be able to tell you what you need. They will take the time to get you fixed up to catch and show you how to rig it.

How are the prices in those shops? I was hoping to be set up before we go as I have heard prices on the OBX are high. I have a 9 foot spinning rod and a Cabelas Salt Striker Spinning reel I have used in the past. Just felt I could get more distance with something a little better.

Sept. is a transition month down there, depending on weather. Your set up is fine for most bottom fishing. The big drum are well North in Sept., so being in the wash and just past is the best place to have your bait. The prices are not too bad down there, they have all degrees of gear as well. If you want bigger fish, you need to move into later months. More distance is not always better, but if you want a decent set up, you can get a Ocean Master rod from BPS and match it with a 20 class reel. Tica makes a decent rod as well in bigger lengths, but hard to find around here. You can pick up a rod/reel combo on the way down for around $150.00 or so at TW's, F&F, or Frisco R&G.
