Weather: mostly cloudy to start clearing out to mostly sunny by mid-morning, Still then turning over to winds from NW @ 10-15. Temps in the 70's rising to low 80's by mid-day
Water: 76-77' viability of 3-5'
Techniques: live bait spread of planers (mix of free and light lines) and downlines. Switched over to pulling down and ligh lines mid-morning. Travis did a little jigging with a fluke jig rig.
Caught bait the night before - a nice mix of gizzards of various sizes 5"-13" and then culled through a bunch of alewifes to get some nice mid to larger ones. Found my best ales under a light about 17' deep around 11:30p
Travis joined us today for a morning on the water. Picked him up at his dock just before 6 and we started looking.
Checked some points nearby but we didn't mark much of anything so we headed down to where Matt and I caught fish on Sunday. Things were slower for us today - marking scattered fish and went over a number that ignored the baits. Had a few chase on the gizzards out on planers but they never committed.
After a while we hooked into one and Matt got to work.
A 6 lber / 26" off an alewife
The fish seemed to be relating to the points this am. One of our buddy guides was catching a good number pulling light lines over a point so we changed over a couple of the downrods to 1/4 oz light lines and ran them about 60' back. Pulled across the channel to another nearby cove and hooked into a nice smallie on the way across
We put away the planers and just ran lightlines, downlines and a float and found several smaller fish, but fun for Matt to catch- picked up about 4 here in the 18-20" range.
Moved back up the lake and targeted a point at the mouth of a creek and marked a larger number of fish a caught a couple and lost one or two with pulled circle hooks
Called it a day just before noon. Aways a good time on the water with Travis - somehow he managed to dodge the camera the whole trip . Also, thanks for the donuts!
