Weather: Overcast then raining then overcast; temps low 70's rising to upper 70's. Light & variable winds
Water: 76, visibility of 3 feet
Techniques: Mixed bag of gizzards from 6" to 12" on planer boards, ales and small gizzards on downlines. Pulling points.
Vacation week at the lake, Tyler and I caught bait on Friday night - easy and did not even leave my cove - hit my light & another in the cove and had a lot of gizzards and a bunch of smaller alewives, but not as many jumbos as we would have liked.
Headed in around 11/11:30 to get ready for the morning. Back to the boat at 4:45-5a and hit the light one more time hoping the jumbo ales had come in, but no luck - tossed a a number of smaller ales in for good measure and got things ready to fish. We were fishing just after 1st light - about 6a and stayed close to home and decided to fish up the lake a bit vs. heading down to where the larger #s, but smaller fish have been reported. We had about 3-3.5 hours before we had to quit so I could get to a Striper Club event, so we figured "go big or go home"
We setup to pull points along a stretch, and put the larger gizzards out on the bank side, three planer spread, fishing the down-lines around 20 feet, and put two boards out on the channel side.
We were not marking any schools - just some scattered fish. Saw this one on the sonar.....
Then saw this one at the boat Hit a downline - 28"
Was slow after that - Tyler hooked into something BIG - too bad it was buoy
Rain came and fortunately went
Kept pulling on up the lake to another favorite spot. It delivered - a couple of high 20" fish

Called it quits about 9...... a little slower than we were hoping with a smaller class of fish, but we saw stripes and it was a good way to kick off vacation....
Oh - and we found the "original RedFin"
