Sounds like most Leesville reports - challenging place - Was it a real gentle tug and then gone? I've seen that a lot with perch or white bass. Thanks for posting up the report.

no was not a little tug, it was a about a 3-4 second rip on the clicker, float or planer stayed down, thats it.the one i lost on the down rod, had the rod bent well into the water, and i let it have it for a second or two.

dog - what type of hooks are you using on your downrods? Circle style or J's/Octopus?

I throw cast nets under dock lights, where bait gather for some reason (attracted to light or maybe something they eat likes light, I don't know) Real fishermen use their sonar to locate bait and throw their nets at the bait where ever they find them in the lake, which seems to be in creeks mostly. Sometimes you will see bait surface and can throw your net at them. They aren't very hardy though, and hard to keep alive, except in summer with warm temperatures, when they are pretty much impossible to keep alive for very long.

i am using 3/0-5/0 circles on down lines, and 3/0-6/0 octopus on planers and floats. been getting gizzards 4-8 in. in old womans creek.

Dog - gotcha - guess it was just bad luck those circles didn't bite.
Afloat - nothing wrong with throwing on lights - caught plenty of ales that way and gizzards certain times on the year.... The lights pull in the plankton which the bait fish will feed on.

Did you pull on the rod or just reel? Are the hooks sharp enough to dig into your finger nail?
