found that stripers were hitting top water from bank to prolly 25' out (mostly within 3' of bank though). Was using a burner and man they wanted it fast!! couldn't believe they were already hitting that aggressive. Listen, you better not wait to hear the "pop" before you begin. Caught just as many on the nites with no shad working the bank as I did when they were. sure not like it was in the 70's 80's or early 90's. ok, now the skinny on when I found the shad to start....I found they were startin at dark they were finished by midnite. white jointed TS, TW..blue bomber! saw a striper chase shad down a bank for150+' midday.
they were jumping on the bank to escape!! brought back alot of old memories. for any older guys who used to fish SML alot and may just be wondering if they can still do what they used to do and catch em' the answer for me is yes. my dad figured it had changed too much and that he would have to adopt too many new and difficult techniques to catch em'. for the main part they are the same fish.. in habit, definetly not in size or in numbers though. I have received alot of help from the large number of great ppl on this site and hope I can contribute once and awhile. will be riding the bike down again prolly next week and hope to have good report once I return. only real negative was the wind well and the fact that the beautiful girl who used to come lay out on the dock right after I got out of school and could get dad's boat to go see her didn't show up as she used to, but since it was 23 years ago, I will let it slide! Thanks all.
