I am new to this board and am an avid striper fisherman. I love to fish night bite top water. I have been fishing Lake Cumberland in Ky. for the past 10 or so years. My brother-in-law has a camp in Meadows of Dan Va. and we want try some night bite fishing at Smith Mountain Lake this year. Would anyone be willing to share with us when the best time is to go, where to fish and where to put in at. I am from West Virginia and have been on Smith Mountain a couple of times but not fished it for striper. At Lake Cumberland we usually went around the first two weeks of May. Any help would be GRATEFULLY Appreciated.

We're off a little temperature wise this year, but things could catch up fast. I would think the good topwater bite should start getting good in early May and carry well into June this year. Mid to lower lake should be good in May and mid lake in June.

Saunders Marina would not be a bad place to put in at - lower lake - the points right there at Saunders can be good, as can a lot of points around the lower end of the lake where the Blackwater & Roanoke converge, or just up a little in either arm.
