Technique: 6 rods…..3 bankside planars 2 channel side planars and a float
Went up to the lake with a buddy to meet Lund1 who had been up since Thursday evening. Lund1 had some pretty good bait by the time I showed up Friday evening so we hit the lake for a few more baits and then pulled them around the creek we caught em in.
Ended up with two fish on the evening with one more missed. Biggest going an easy 34” that Lund1 finally got to reel in other one was a 28” that was turned into tacos later that week as it inhaled the hook pretty good. And was bleeding when it hit the boat deck.
Woke up the next morning with high hopes….fished everywhere…..upriver (even tho there was so much crap in the water we had to idle up there), backs of creeks, mouths of creeks, main channel points…fish just didn’t want to play…long story short skunk on that Saturday.
Woke up Sunday for some redemption. On the water by sunlight and was getting some action. Tons of pullbacks and short strikes with not a lot committing. Finally got a good 30” fish to commit and put him in the boat to get the skunk off.
BW 5/3+ 5/4
Added 3/8oz weight to planars.
Back up to the lake by Wednesday evening around 5pm to catch bait with Lund1 and my uncle. Bait was not easy…..2-3 dollar bills per throw max. after rounding up 15-20 decent baits we called It for the night.
Woke up Thursday morning and on the water early before first light. We knew that there was a pretty good high pressure system coming in that day so we didn’t have the highest of hopes. Morning started out with action right away….but we failed to hookup on our first 3 bites. 8” baits were coming in with skinned from their dorsal fin back. Finally stuck it to a few small fish to get the skunk off the boat.
Pulled some BW main channel points that evening hoping for some more action. More of the same…..pull back after pullback. At one point, i had planar boards getting pulled under water but I was holding the rod in my hand and could feel the striper still not committing to the bait….i found if I struck these fish it pulled it out of their mouths, but if I didn’t strike these fish they just didn’t eat…..how have yall combatted this in the past?
Until I finally found a fish that actually wanted to eat….
35” and 19.5lbs, just shy of a citation.
4/4.
Uncle had to leave early this morning so it was only me and Lund1 today and Lund1 had to leave around 1pm. picked a spot we have had luck in this time of year previously….
Started off a little slow couldn’t find fish that wanted to fully commit again, but this big girl came around. She absolutely hammered a 8” bait and passed up a 10” bait right next to it.
She was full to bursting and went 35” and 20lbs
5 min after that another board went off and lund1 grabbed it and crossed his eyes…
After a really good fight we boated a good 32” fish that seemed to be much more athletic and fought harder than my 35” fish I just boated. We decided to end it there.
I fished the evening and then next morning….picking one more 29” that evening and a 30” the next morning but I was alone so didn’t bother to take a pic.
That is going to have to count as my last hurrah for a bit, bc last week on 5/8 I torn my left meniscus for the second time in two years playing driveway basketball. I don’t think my knee will enjoy the rotation of throwing a cast net……that’s a 6 citation spring for the Lund boys! See yall in the fall….or in 10 weeks when my knee is better.
