Let me just say that we always pick the best most comfortable days to go fishing as a family. 🙄 It was 65, sunny and calm all day. We get to the lake and it’s in the low 50s, cloudy and windy. Lol.
By the time we made it through Rocky Mount after work traffic, got some subs for dinner, and followed granny up 122 to oak grove it was pushing 6pm as we pulled away from the dock.
The bait hole was pretty much empty {whyyyyy!!!!!}, save for a couple small pods that saved the day. With a dozen money makers in the tank, we headed out to the main channel to pull some wind blown shorelines. We had lines in at 645pm!
It wasn’t two minutes and we had a big bass pulling on a board, but we shook her off 😉 and kept on pulling. Several awesome blowups and a couple buried boards later, and my wife was hooked up with a fat ~ 30”er. Her and my daughter played it to the boat and the skunk was gone. We rebaited and untangled and kept on pulling. A couple more blowups and a lost fish later, and I was able to snatch a knot in one and put a fatter ~30” in the boat. That was right at 730. We pulled on till we didn’t have any sight of the boards and brought them in. 2/4 had the baits stolen in the low light and we never knew it. For an hours worth of fishing, I’ll take it.
Water was 51. Air was in the low-mid 50s. It was overcast with low clouds and the wind was pretty persistent out of the south east (weird). Pressure was falling into the 29.8 range according to weather underground. Baits were all moneymakers. And the middle board got most of the action with 15-20’ of freeline behind the board.

Yes sir, that's a good evening.
Ain't it always the case.... When you are in a hurry you get behind a slow poke on the way to the lake and then bait is all but gone ... That's the iceing on the cake. Glad it worked out for y'all.

Glad it worked out for y'all. It never fails. That, taxes, and death are the only sure things in life. On the way my wife asked if I changed out of my work shoes and my reply was, “No baits been easy, I won’t get them wet.” 🤔🤭🤐

Ha - my wife asks me the same thing every time I do an after work trip (which hasn’t occurred yet this year but needs to). My work shoes squeak a little, but they’re fine otherwise!

The short answer is everywhere, but typically in the back halfs of creeks when the water depth is 30 feet or less and preferably much less than that. Need to use sonar to find them and then a good cast net to catch them....and then a good bait tank keep them in.....then some salt to help hold oxygen,,,,,,and then extra filters to filter out slime and scales etc. Striper fishing with live bait sure aint easy....but it is rewarding.
