I arrived to find bait on Friday. I had trouble finding bait the week before the tourney in my usual spots so I decided to change things up by searching new places with my mentor. I started at 2am and by noon, we were defeated. My buddy was having issues with his back, so I was the only one throwing and throwing and throwing. We finally went back to my old honey holes and were able to get a few mongos but I just couldn't keep it up long enough to fill the tank.
When we arrived at Campers, I could hardly walk up the steps. The good thing was that I actually went straight to sleep and got the best pre tourney night of sleep in my history of fishing these things.
On tourney day, my partner Brock and I did a great job and really never made any mistakes. In fact, I'm quite proud of how good we did from a technical perspective. Very efficient indeed. We just couldn't find where the big fish were hiding. We did find where some big fish were, but these fish didn't want to eat until Sunday.
In hindsight, it seems our team fished above and below all the folks who did better than us. Congrats!
More importantly, thanks to everyone for taking part and to Striper Mafia for keeping this thing alive! It makes us all better at something we all love to do.

You were at the tournament? Never even saw the Yam. Yes, I couldn't handle the shad and mud slushy on my boat and wanted to clean it up before it froze and before I fell over from exhaustion. I really should spend more time socializing with folks who share a common passion. I'll do better next time. But thank you MWard for all the wonderful things you do for our sport and for promoting good causes. You are one hell of a man!

Anyone can catch fish where everyone is catching them. The personal gratification one gets from striking out on his own, finding and catching fish where no one else is, is worth more than any first place finish, which I know you don't care about anyway.....i see a # 30lber in the very near future.

Is one of your honey holes the place where the woman threatened to call the law because you were trespassing? You missed some good chilli while detailing your boat.

I would not call that a honey hole! š I apologize for not properly congratulating you and Jason for yet another great performance in the tourney! However, I did selfishly find a way to get me some of that chili. Yummy!

However, there is a part of me that loves that I have never won one because it keeps me motivated to get better. But you are right that during non tournament hours I would rather strike out fishing in an area by myself than catching multiple citations in a congested area.
