Arrived at Scruggs ramp at 4:00 am. Lake is considerably low. Went to a nearby location where bait is usually plentiful. Threw my cast net until almost 6:00. Wound up with 5 decent gizzards. Took these to Blackwater and found a school of stripers at 20' roughly. Water depth was 45'. Surface temp was 70 degrees. Fished for 3 hours on downlines. One hard pull down but didn't get the hook in its mouth. Moved to Gills Creek. Found a sizable school at the mouth of the ski cove. Same results. Went for more bait at the end of Gills Creek. Entire area is covered with silver dollar gizzards. By mid afternoon, wind was chopping the lake pretty bad and since my boat is small, I loaded up and went home. Still a great day on a beautiful lake. Can't wait to go back soon.

You think it could have been a school of white perch? I live in the area and frequent the area a lot and always get on a massive school of sizeable white perch there at the mouth of the cove. As well as cats stacked up there. If your confident it was striper may have to drop the boat in tomorrow after work since it could be a quick trip

I felt pretty certain they were stripers based on their size on my sonar. Couldn't be 100% though.

Thanks for the report, we have been trying to hold back on the Striper until the water cools down. But we are getting the itch.

Most likely stripers..... schools of 12-14 inch fish running at 20'....
