Ran up the Roanoke from Bernard's with intentions of down lining after getting up early to catch shad. Saw some boats so posted up for a while after marking a few fish, no luck. Was leaving the area when we noticed fish breaking water. Was a massive school, was in 150 ft of water near the main channel and the fish finder read 22 ft it was so thick. Cut the downlining rig off tied on a jig head on and immediately hooked and boated a heavy 30 incher. Dropped another couple rods down with live bait and boated another 25 in fish. The school dispersed shortly after and had a few takes but nothing else. First time fishing I've seen them breaking topwater in the main channel. All in all a good morning on the lake and glad to have beaten Labor Day traffic!

I had two nice fish right at Bernard's in the cove there. Fishing off my Kayak One was 28 inch and the other 32.
