Hi all,
I am looking for advice on Striper fishing in a cove or off the shore. What is the best rig to use in general? Are some rigs better in deep/shallow water? I typically just use a drop shot rig and I am just wondering if there is something better out there. Thank you for the help.

depends where the fish are holding - but most of our live-bait rigs are effectively "Carolina Rigs" - with more weight / longer leaders.....
Hook to 4-6' of leader to swivel to main line with bead (usually) and egg weight above that.
Downlines are 1-3 oz weight Light lines are 1/8 - 3/4 oz weights (I usually run 1/4 or 3/8) Freelines are no weight
Fish downlines slow so they will be as vertical as possible so you can control depth.
Lightlines - well, I'll fish 3/8 about 55 ft behind the boat - running around 0.7 mph - gets it around 15-20' deep - if on a planer I'll put 10-20' out but I'm fishing those lines shallower

Thank you for the response. Do you recommend not using the drop shot rig? Are carolina rigs a better alternative? I have seen people use a three-way swivel too. Also, I don't have a boat to go trolling.

Ahh - yeah, the techniques above are for live bait trolling. If fishing off a pier / dock / bank then a drop shot or three-way sound good
