WT 74 to 76 AT 56 in early morning light breeze
Up at 3am to go catch bait... found scattered gizzards and alewives in 12' to 18'
after a couple of hours casting and culling bait, had about 2 dozen nice mixed baits (also hauled in a 4.5# largemouth in the net!)
went a bit south of the Halesford bridge, but not as far as the "S" curve and went almost to the back of a creek and set up to pull back to the channel (about 6:45am). Started with light line PBs and light/free line floats. At about 7:15 one of the bankside PBs torpedoed and headed for deep water. Good fish! I got him within 20' of the boat and he smoked the drag, went under the boat with my rod doubled up trying to turn him, but he surfaced on the far side of the boat, went airborn and came unbuttoned. Never saw him, but I think he was a NICE fish. (using Uglystick Striper rods and Okuma reels....the fish had some muscle).
2 seconds after the bigun' got off, the bankside float started screaming! I landed that one...29".
I got the boat shaped up again, circled back to drag the same point/cove and almost the same thing happened! Another decent fish dove under the boat and got off on the other side and within 2 minutes of that I landed a 19 incher. That was it! Party over at 8:20am. Not even another nervous bait the rest of the trip (quit at 10:30am).
One thing I noticed and all you seasoned striper guys know this I'm sure, but the action was on the shady side of the creek. Once the sun was high enough to penetrate the water the fish were gone.
No pics. I kept the 29" fish (excellent wrapped in pecans and baked!) and released the 19" fish that was caught shallow and was still very frisky!

Nice report. I lost 2 nice ones last Saturday at dark within 5 min of each other. Trying a new hook this weekend! At least you landed a couple... I got the big ole SKUNK that day.
