Jason54 and I went on a long bait hunt the day before. Hours and hours of hunting. The Tim Wade 3/4 in 15lb net was flung open several times by jason54. On a couple of throws we found a turtle and Yep, the Tim Wade net picked up a quarter. Tournament day Wt 69-70 i think It might have dropped to 67. I pulled 3 bank boards with no weight and sometimes 2 creek side boards no weight with a float out back. All mongos were pulled. I pulled from 615am to 315pm. I broke off two fish and lost another. One time when i had a fish on, a boat was passing me, i threw up my hand to wave and then the fish broke my line. The break was close to my knot so im not sure if the line or knot broke. Sorry for no pics. It was about 3 pm on my second break off when the rain fell in buckets with thunder and lightning. It was so bad I couldnt see live bait junkee on the other side of the channel. Congrats to all the winners! The competition was intense! The striper mafia once again provided first class competition for striper fishermen. Due to the forum and the striper mafia I happily release fish and make sure they are reintroduced back to their home properly.

Sorry Harley that was me that went by haha. I thought you had one on or were hung . I've hung a tree there a few times. You should definitely be proud of your self for a great tournament series. Now that tournament season is over it's time to get back together and do some fishing, before all the crazy come out and water gets to warm.

Hey, never say those nets dont pay for themselves Sorry about the breakoffs. What lb test were you running, and what kind of knots are you tying?

Was the quarter on heads or tails? That might have something to do with the breakoffs.....

Gator, don't know if it was heads or tails. Mike, 20lb test line with a palomar knot. I usually tie all my knots at home so that I can take my time and not feel rushed. I also use a magnify glass to examine the knot. A few of my knots were tied at the boat dock. I also think I didn't use enough saliva. Im heading back to knot school. Ill let you know my grade after the next test. KB, I kind of felt like I was showing off when I waved, so I was humbled quickly. HaHa! Drag, my daughter and I made some good memories this past year.

Great reports like yours are why I keep coming back to read this board. I am sure that all of you already know this but just in case.......If your line has a curly que or pigs tail in it when it breaks off/unravels supposedly the knot slipped if no pigs tail then supposedly it cut itself. I am looking for the link that explained all of this and ways to avoid it. I know how but I cant explain it well enough in writing and don't remember the names of the knot you tie after your palomar or clinch or whatever knot to keep it from slipping. Here is a good link to refresh everyone's memory on various knots. www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.png&Website=www.animatedknots.com#ScrollPoint

Thanks Mike, I remember reading the forum a couple years ago and "old timers" would talk about how people who didn't catch anything wouldn't post the report. In return people who had a hard time catching fish would feel bad because they were made to feel they were the only ones not catching fish. In my reports I definitely don't want to come off as a hot shot who catches fish each time I step on the boat. That is not the case. I enjoy each time out on the lake. I really enjoy the competition during the tournaments. My line looked like it had a pigs tail, curly q, and a curly W for a Nationals win where I broke off at. So, when you say the knot slipped, does that mean my knot was not tight enough? Thanks for the input.

Supposedly that is exactly what happens. For the life of me I cant find anything on the knot that you add on after tying your original knot to help keep it from slipping but I am still looking. From what I have read any knot is almost automatically half as strong as the line so any knot that doubles up your line must be stronger. I like braid for most fishing but usually I add a fluorocarbon leader after a swivel. I have had many knots cut themselves and many more slip no matter how tight or wet they were when tied? ??
