Went out Friday to catch bait in gc. Found plenty of peanuts and decent size ales to start the morning Saturday. Went out to my first productive hole and nothing on the sonar...went to option 2 and found a few fish around and decided to make a u turn and fish the area...turned out to be a good decision despite the outcome... had a few swirls and 2 boards get plum BURIED!!! Both hooks were set at the right time "I thought" with nothing on the receiving end. Had 2 more boards get pulled under not as hard and no fish. Got to wondering why I couldn't hook up on any fish, so after a couple whiffs I looked at the hooks...I had circle hooks on my planers and was trying to set hooks...(rip their heads off). I had fished with my 6 year old son last weekend and I had the rods rigged for him on down lines so all he had to do was reel...I completely forgot to rig them back up with j hooks on my planers. No excuse regardless...anyway Congrats to all who placed, it was a hard days fishing. Yam, that was a kick a$$ video and way to stick it out...that crack of lightning would have have my head between my legs and said it was enough. Congrats to all that placed. Hope to have another team member to OnTheRocks next year!!! Hope to having him throwing a net by then 😂

I must add that my 6 year old son would not let me leave the house without him. Even though it was tourney day!!! He caught his first last year and has been hooked ever since. I hope to keep the fishery going through him as my part and him as I've learned so much from you guys on here to "let go and let em grow". I'm trying to teach him the same thing so as to enjoy what I have through the years!!

The great thing about tourneys is that they force you to identify areas of improvement. In our case, with a young one on board, we need to be as efficient as possible with the things we can control so that we can attempt to manage the many things that can not be predicted. Bottom line, tourney bait fishing with a 6 year old is a magnificent challenge.
My hat is off to you for stepping up. It inspires me. My son is 5.

Yam, there isn't a thing I would take for time with my son out on the water or in the woods or in the man cave. Doesn't matter if we catch anything or not, it's about the time together. This past Sunday with all the rain, he and I sat in the man cave watching tv, it was one of the best rainy sundays I've had in a long while. As far as live bait fishing with him goes he has quite the patience. I think the best way to go about it when I'm with him is to make it as fun as possible. I'll have him try to count how many are in the purge bucket. Anyway you can figure its extremely rewarding and a great feeling when they want to do whatever your doing.
