The wife and I will be coming in Thursday night. Looking to go out early Friday Morning to catch bait and some stripers I hope!! LOL This is our first time on SML. We will be staying very close to the bridge near where Captain Quarters is. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Do I go up the lake or down the lake? Beat place to fine bait and which is the best bait? We really only have gizzard and heron shad at the lake I usual fish, so what bait I al looking for on SML? Thanks in advance for all the help!!!

Hi Rowen,
I would say you can go up or down river this time of year. For me, if I went downriver, I would stay above the S turn at the state park.
It sounds like you are new to SML. For bait, it helps to have some time on the lake. What should be pretty available to you is some nice alewives found at good light prior to sunrise. Gizzard shad of a small to medium variety should be pretty easy in the middle to back of most creeks, particularly early morning or late evening.
Good luck and let us know how you do.
