AT - 55 - 80
WT - 63-68
Full moon period
Partly cloudy and light wind
I had taken Wed thru Friday off work to spend some spring break time with my daughter. However at the last mi ute she got an offer better than hanging out with the old man at the lake and ditched me so I decided to head up anyways and make a fishing trip out of it. I was solo wed and thurs.
Bait was a bit scarce Tuesday evening when I got to the lake and I only managed a dozen or so dollar bills so I spentโ the first couple hours Wednesday filling the bait tank in the back of a creek.
I read here that the fish had probably moved to main channel but since I was already in the back of the creek I decided to go ahead and deploy boards and pull out to the mouth.
Did not have so much as a nervous bait in the creek and as soon as I got to the main channel things started happening.
Found fish off the main channel points that were aggressive and were fighting extremely hard for their size. Continued to have fairly slow but consistent action the rest of the day and ended up with 8 fish landed all between 26 and 29 inches. Had to go reload the bait tank for the next day and that didn't take long:
Decided to leave fish in search of bigger fish the following morning and headed downriver a bit. Bad decision... I spent half the day downriver and only got 2 smaller fish to show for it.
Moved back to where I had success the day before and pulled in a few more fish and ended up with 7 on the day and finally got a fish that just barely broke the 30 inch barrier.
Had a buddy join me for fishing Friday morning. We were able to catch about 2 dozen 5 to 8 inch alewives that morning before we left the boat dock. This turned out be a homerun as we got just as much action on the ales as we did the gizzards we had been using. Caught another 8 fish friday tipped of by a 32 inch fish.
Headed out Saturday morning to the same area and was off to a slow start when a bank side board in about 4 feet of water took off. Doug grabbed the rod, set the hook and we saw a huge swirl in the shallow water followed by drag screaming and the fish taki g off for deeper water. A few minutes and a few tangles later we had this fat 35 inch fish on board. The fish had a hook and a bout 3 feet of line already lodeged in its stomach. We snipped the line as close as we could to the hook and released the fish and it swam away. Hope it makes it... It was hungry and fought well so I have some hope it will be ok.
Ended up catching 7 fish and called it a day as the storms started to come through.
All fish for the weekend were successfully released to fight again another day ๐๐
