First I got out on Friday afternoon. No bait and did not feel like searching around without one of those fancy side scan fish finders so I trolled some flutter spoons, rattle traps and deep diving plugs in combination. Trolled some ledges right at the mountain area. No stripers but caught a few nice size greens. Did see some signs of what would likely be stripers and bait though. Got back to the houseboat and put out my green light at dusk. Got some small shad before going to bed knowing I had some bait at least. Got up at 4:30 to check the green light. It was packed with dollar bills. One cast and I brought up pounds and pounds of shad. Dumped them into bucket and started scooping bunches out and putting back in lake. Keep more than enough for several days of fishing. Have homemade shad basket that is very large and put them in the basket and dropped down to about 20 feet. By the way, this basket works great until mid June. It is very large made of flex water pipe and mesh. All the shade lived but two until the next evening.
On to the report: Went back to sleep until 7 AM after catching bait. Transferred bait I needed into tank and took off for Bull Run. Wind was strong so only able to fish one side as I was fishing solo. Saw lots of stripers around opening to the part of BR just past little bull run entrance. First went to back. There was nothing to be seen in the back 1/3. Went out to first 1/3 of area bast little BR and started seeing large groups of stripers and bait on calmer side. Put out two planners to each side with bait down to about 20 feet and one float off back about 15 feet. Just pulled back and forth across to points with small cove between. Had lots of take downs. Caught four nice size and several small ones. Had a double on two of the nice ones (this is hard when you are by yourself on a windy day). Picked the one that felt larger and got him in first. No time for pictures on that one as I wanted him back in water and had another running out (First measured to 33"). By the time I got to him he had taken all the other lines with him so I had a big mess. He had gotten down in some trees as well. Was able to pull him out and into boat as well (He measure to 29'). Good time. Would post some pictures but no URL to send. The other two nice ones were also 27-29". 4-5 smalls were all in the 15-18" range. No Greens caught in BR.
