What a difference a day makes. Wednesday was nonstop action all day. Thursday seemed like it would be good too. Drizzle and 50 when I put lines in at 6:45. Started my pull in the back of a creek that had been productive the day before. Hooked up within 5 min. Lost the fish just shy of the boat. Thought no big deal it's gonna be on again. Continued pulling, had lots of nervous bait but couldn't get a hit. Pulled further out in the creek and wasn't getting any nervous bait.
Moved to another tight creek where I had done well the day before but there were two boats in there already and that was two too many for the size of the area.
Pulled some main channel flats where I picked up a big largemouth but not much more action.
Decided to go back to the first creek since I knew there were fish in there. This time I deployed my secret weapon, a massive blue back I had netted the morning before. Sure enough it got hit right away producing a fat 32". Shortly thereafter picked up a 30" on a 10" bait. Picked up another largemouth a few minutes later.
Right as I was getting ready to leave I had a 14" mongo get smoked after a good chase. Went to set the hook and the drag totally came to pieces. Let it sit back there for a few minutes as I tried to figure out what was going on with the drag. Burned in the bait to about 10 feet behind the boat and had it sitting while messing with the reel. All of the sudden I saw a silver flash out of the corner of my eye and the bait got nailed again. While thumbing the spool to try to get tension I set the hook again. Slipped out of my hand missed the fish and ended up in a big birds nest. Reel is now in trash.
Had to get back home so called it a day.
