Been on the sidelines for a while. My last trip nearly 3 weeks ago ended like this 30 min in while getting bait
Turns out starter went bad an a year old Yamaha. Took forever to get a mechanic down to replace. Was supposed to be done yesterday so I came over hoping to get bait and be ready to roll this morning. Turned out the rain put them back a day so no boat. Used the time to straighten out my nets and re tie some lines. Turned my light on at the dock before bed but had low expectations because I haven't seen any good bait at my light since last spring.
Woke up at 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep so I went and checked my light. Score. Huge ring of bait circling my light in about 100' circumference. First throw netted 50 medium to large blueback / ales. That gave me something to do while I waited on the mechanic.
Lines in by 6:30 pulling main channel points in front of my house so I could see when the mechanic arrived. Action right away. Ended up with 6 all small to very small.
Lots of action tho, beat sitting and starring out the window waiting for mechanic. About 9 he showed up. Got the new starter in and I was off to get some real bait by 10. First creek I hit found fish flipping and I mean big flips. I'd motor over to the circles and mark nothing. They were either moving very quick or it was just one on its own. Managed a few mongos one at a time decided to move on. Found some thicker bait in the next creek. Managed 3 dozen money makers with one or two mongos thrown in including a 14" monster. Ended up with a pretty decent tank of bait.
Started pulling out of the back of the creek where I made bait. The 14" got blown up on and nailed one the first point I hit. Huge explosion, missed it. Took me by surprise. Pulled around in there for a while and picked up 4 more. Moved to a different creek and picked up 2 more all on 10" shad. 30" being biggest for the day. About 4:30 was ready to call it a day after essentially 12 hours and saw some nice flips. Managed to zero in on a decent pod of bait that produced 3 more mongos and 3 money makers. Called it a day.
Got a good tank of bait, fishy looking weather and a working boat. Looking forward to tomorrow.
