Headed to the lake Thursday evening to be able to spend Friday scouting and developing a plan for the tournament.
Headed out Thursday evening to try and catch bait. 3 hours and several dozen throws of the net later I had about a dozen usable baits.... Not a good start.
Woke up Friday and decided we had to fill the tank before we coukd do much of anything else so we headed to a different creek to load up. Bait was in the area but was very deep, 22 to 25 feet mostly and in small scattered pods.
Spent about 4 hours Friday morning loading up the tank and finally felt good with our bait situation.
We decided to take a break as we were worn out and stopped back at home to watch my Oklahoma State University Cowboys get beat by Michigan by 1 point after MI shot 12 for 15 from 3 point range in the 2nd half. Unfortunately that was a sign of how the tournament Saturday would go.
We fished a bit Friday afternoon and put one 29 inch fish in the boat.
Got up early and to our spot Saturday morning and got lines in as soon as the code came across.
We got a 25" fish on board before we even got all our lines in. And then that was it... We had a couple of swirls and chased baits but zero takers after that. We did however get to see a large flock of turkeys and a strutting tom that was gobbling like his life depended on it.
Moved around a few times trying to locate fish and we were unsuccessful. Bass boats were zooming around d all day as well... Not cari g how close to our planers they came. I swear their success rate at fishing would probably double if they could just stay in a spot for more than 5 minutes. But i suppose the allure of blasting across the water at 60 mph with a 10 foot tall rooster tail out the back is more important than actually fishing.
Anyways... Saturday evening ended up with super wind... So bad I didnt even try and pull into my slip as boat damage in that wind was highly likely. Tied up to the outside of the dock and called it a day.
Sunday we tried a different area and fished 4 hours. Only had 1 downline bit but it turned out to be a good one... A new PB for me at 35 inches!
Tough... Cold... Windy weekend that was salvaged at the very last minute!
