I'm probably gonna get booted off this forum for asking to many dumb questions, but.....when you live baiters move from one spot to another what do you do with your baits? Remove them from your rig? Or is it bad for them to leave them rigged up and just set them in the livewell?

I am probably not the best one to answer this but most of the time I will chuck the bait if I have been pulling it awhile and re-bait at the new spot. If I do not have many baits if it is really lively I will put it back in the tank. I caught my first couple big shad the last trip I was down. I had one of my best friends on the boat and he would not let it go. I looked back at the tank as we were getting ready to head to the next spot and sure enough there was line hanging out of the tank with a rigged gizzard in there. lol

For me it depends....how much bait do I have....how hard was bait to catch...how long were those baits on the line when I decided to move.....if they are iffy at all and I have a decent amount of bait they are going into the lake. If I decide they are going to be saved I take them off the hook and put back into the tanks. I usually fish with a minimum of 6 rods and putting 6+ rods rigged with bait into the tank is just asking for big tangles and will slow me down at my next spot.

I usually just throw them back in lake. Now if you have been catching bait for hours and only have a few then that's a hard thing to do so I inspect them for loss of scales and red nose. And if there fine I may use them again. But like said up above me never put more then one in tank with hook still in them BC that is a mess that will make anyone mad haha.

I throw em back in the lake.
When bait is tough it doesn't matter, because it usually means I've been catching fish on the few baits I have and would have little reason to move except when I've run out of bait.

Depends on how full the tank is and how tough catching has been.
Best thing is always going to be a fresh bait. But I will sometimes toss decent size gizzards back the tank if they still look good - scales intact and good color. Alewifes always get tossed - and I almost never fish with small gizzards but they would get tossed too.
On my big baits that I've rigged with stinger hooks I put one each in a bucket and one in the tank for the run. You can't put multiple in the tank or they will weave a monofiliment sweater for you before you get to the next fishing hole.

Thanks ALOT guys! VERY good info! Thanks again! Also ajrod88 I am very new to live baiting and striper fishing as well. One thing that has helped me get the net open a little more is if your right handed once you release the net with your right hand hold on as long as possible to the net in your left hand. This will give the net more time to open before it hits the water.

Loading the net properly is key. When the net is pancake open, you wanna be hanging into the piece that's gonna be landing right in front of your feet.
I've found that a slow, smooth motion results in better nets for me. I barely clear the edge of the boat.

Not sure if this will help, but it's slow mo of one of my throws - honestly not the best throw as far as spread - I find I spread it much better the farther I throw from the boat - here it was a little tight to the bank, so it's not quite as flat. Either way the end result is what you want - 12-14"ers in the net!

I've pretty much decided there are 1,456,573.25 ways to throw a cast net and for some reason different methods work better for different folks.
I've tried a couple different times to learn Yam's shrimper method and I just can't do it....no clue how he has the net over his shoulder and does that.

I saw a Yam video back when I started and learned it. What I love about it is how quickly you can get the net loaded up. You do get wet, it's not that big of a deal if you get loaded up in 3 or 4 throws but it looks like you had fallen into the lake on those 50 throw days.

Bentrod, have you ever tried to throw a net without using your mouth? I don't fish 1/10 as much as you do, and I don't catch 1/20 the fish, but man, I worked hard at it until I got good at throwing a net without putting it in my mouth... Really made me enjoy live bait fishing a lot more Bonus is that I can throw it without bibs and not get wet! I studied the striper soup guy's video to learn it: You can also study this video for the same technique, but I found the striper soup video better for paying attention to the net:
