Headed up for the long weekend on Friday night.
AT high 30's to 70
WT - 46-49 degrees
Went out and loaded up with bait on Friday evening. Met Tommyfishes real quick as he was throwing a net by my dock. I was able to go to the back of a nearby creek and load up with a couple 12"+ Mongos and a couple dozen 6-10"gizzards as well.
We started Sat morning pulling a creek where we had some success last week. We were quickly rewarded with a 30.75 fish on a bank side planer quickly followed by a 34" fish on another bank side planer. We stayed in the same area the rest of the morning and ended up with 6 fish total - 2x34" , a 31", and 2x30"fish, and a 26"fish. We stopped for a quick lunch break and were back on the water around 2PM. fished the same area until dark and never even sniffed another bite. All in all not a bad day.
Sunday morning was more of the same plan - we headed to the same area and only caught 2 fish that morning a 28"and a 26". We had many other hits and one real good fish on the line but couldn't get any more in the boat - we were however joined by 5 other boats that came in to the area right as the bite cooled down and the wind really picked up. Got to finally see Bushwhacker in his boat as well! Took another lunch break and I went to try and catch some more bait in another nearby creek. Bait was deep and hard to come by but after quite a few throws I had 2 more mongos and was restocked on dollars and money makers. I headed out solo for the afternoon trip and only caught 1 27 inch fish on a downline.
Monday morning I was solo again and decided to try a completely different area just for a change of pace. I ran quite a ways downriver and headed to the back of a creek. I was the only boat in the whole creek and it was a lovely morning - saw some turkey...a few deer....many geese and ducks as well....just beautiful. As I was watching my bank side boards as thats where all the action was I heard a quick splash and turned around and one of my channel boards was just flying across the water. Grabbed the rod and put a 32" fish on board. Sent that rod back out and was letting the board back out into the channel - turned to again watch the bank side boards - and once again that channel board got buried - this time with a 30 inch fish. Hmmm....i think to myself - 2 fish like that means a different pattern here so I started fishing more of the main channel and about a half hour later one of my boards literally took off at warp 9 across my spread and moved a good 20 feet before I could even get the rod in my hand...compliments of a very feisty 28 incher. Ended the morning at 11 with 4 fish after putting a 26 incher on board as well.
All in all - a very good weekend and an absolutely beautiful Presidents Day!!!
