Weather: Cool early, but into the mid 60s later in the day. Very nice, probably too nice. Water: 44-50 degrees 2-3' clarity Method: Pulled big gizzards behind boards on free lines. Hadn't been on the water since early January. Put in at Hardy around 7:30 or so. My first busness was to get my new Tim Wade net wet and find some bait to practice on. Around 8:30 I found some bait, big bait, personal best big bait. The new net is a vast improvement over my old one! I've got some technique polishing to do however. 9:00 started pulling an 11" shad on my bank side, and one a little smaller on my channel side. About 9:15 I had a slow pull under, reeled down and hooked up. She was 30" and 10 lbs. Hooked in the corner of the mouth on a stinger hook. About a half hour later I had a cannon ball splash on my channel side board while pulling over a flat in a bout 5' of water, no hook up. I was not using a stinger on this one. I pedaled my legs off between spots I wanted to pull the rest of the day but with nothing more to show for it. My baits stayed nervous after 4:00 until I decided to pack it up about 5:30. Can't say I saw that much bait except for early on. Great day in my book! Got to break in the new net, caught big bait, big bait caught big fish!
