Water Temps 46-48 degrees AT 25-40 Mostly cloudy skies
Had the new boat delivered yesterday around noon and after playing around with it for a couple hours I went to catch bait....3 hours later I had caught one alewife. Came back to the condo for a quick dinner and a drink and went back on the bait hunt around 8 PM. Tried a couple of different creeks and finally managed to put 6 gizzards and 4 alewifes in the tank and gave up around 11.
Decided to try a local creek this morning and only put out 4 lines due to my bait situation. About 15 minutes into the pull my bankside gizzard got slapped around and then the planer took off. as soon as I set the hook a float out the back got hammered and a double was on! Perfect way to break in the new boat!
Got the first fish to the boat and about had a heart attack trying to land the fish with my old landing net....gonna need a longer one now that I'm in a toon. That fish was about 31 inches and I was also able to land the 2nd fish which was about 26 inches. Caught 2 more in the next half hour and both were in the 26-27 inch range. Managed one more about an hour later to bring the mornings total to 5 fish caught and 2 other bites that did not hook up....not too shabby considering I started with 10 baits.
Summary:
6 hours bait catching for 10 baits 4 hours fishing for 5 stripers
About to head back out here again in search of bait again - wish me luck
