Had to come over to meet a plumber Monday and have a meeting in Roanoke tomorrow, so decided to get a day of fishing in between. Got on the water about 1:30 yesterday to get bait. Checked a few creeks that had been good to me this fall didn't mark a thing. Finally about 3:30 found piles of what looked to be good bait, problem was it was 35' deep. Got out my 10' 1" TW to see if I could get it. No dice, threw probably 20 times on big piles of bait. Either it was too small and was going through the 1" or my net was closed because I could mark the net going right through the piles. I had just about resigned myself to jigging / casting or getting ales off the lights and remembered M Ward's post about the bait coming up at dark. Hung out for about 45 mins waiting for the sun to set. Sure enough right about dusk started seeing flips. Bait was coming up. Problem was it was very scattered. Got bait every throw, unfortunately it was one or two per throw. Managed to put together a nice tank of 3 dozen dollar bills to money makers but I was just about spent by the time I finished about 7.
Was up at 6 to re-tie hooks. Headed out forgot my TM remote back to the house. Back out. TM remote batteries dead, had an extra battery on the boat but no screw driver to open remote. Back to house. My wife was like what the hell are you doing. Suggested I call it a day and go back to bed. Finally got all squared away. Started in a nearby creek. Got off to a slow start. Finally about 8:30 things got going. Picked up 8 (all between 27" and a 30") in various methods. Shallow boards, deep boards, lite lines, weighted lines. All about this size: (still working on getting a go pro set up correctly)
Missed a couple and had one come loose. About 11:30 things died out. Moved to another creek. Dead. Pulled the mouth of a creek picked up a bass, but otherwise dead. Pulled some main channel points before TM battery died and called it a day about 4.
Cloudy most of the day with WT a consistent 49 degrees.
