Me and a friend are considering coming down to Sml and trying our luck with some stripers here soon..we really enjoy graphing them and vertical jigging for them.is this a good time of year to try that...I am much more familiar with lake Anna than sml, is there any particular creeks that are better than others this time of year? Any general info would be much appreciated, feel free to pm me and I'll happy share any info on Lake Anna if you are interested as well.

This will sound like I'm just blowing smoke but honestly this time of year and into Dec you'll find fish in pretty much all the major creeks at least mid to upper ends of the lake arms - maybe lower as wel but I don't spend much time down there this time of year.

Yep. I've also gotten into some rather large schools around the state park in December and January, and also in the lower blackwater.
Jigging is usually hit or miss for me this early. However, horizontally retrieved jigs and spoons seem to work well.

I'd agree with that John - vertically jigging gets best in January - maybe very late December if it gets cold enough soon enough. But the last few years casting & retreiving as our performed vertical jigging even in Jan/Feb it seemed for us.

Thanks for all the helps guys! Sounds like maybe we need to wait a little longer to come down. Might still give it a try but might stick to Anna as it's much closer. I'll let you guys know how it goes if we do come down though.

No big secrets this time of year - catch bait, pick a creek and pull
