I live an hour and a half or so away from SML and am not familiar with the area very much, so I thought I would ask, where might a fella find a good local tackle shop? Ive been putting in up on the Roanoke side traveling from Danville. Any help would be appreciated.

Franklin Outdoors in Rocky Mount is the only "local" shop I know of that doesnt close for the winter but I could be wrong.

Are you coming up 29 ? If so Old Dominion Guns & Tackle is on the west side of Danville. You can take the Danville bypass west and come out on 58 and it is very close.

Try the "Captains Quarters", right on the lake at Halesford Bridge. He will probably have anything you need for Striper fishing. That's about as local as you can get for SML. Link to his website: www.smithmountainlakeboats.com/wordpress/

Captain's Quarters looks right, but I didn't think about it closing for the winter. May try Franklin next time I'm through there.
Thanks guys!!!

Try bayroc. My mom runs the store and can order anything you need. If she dosnt have it. They keep in stock items such as, foam off, shad saver, hooks, weights, and artificial lures, and more and also boat and trailer parts. If they dont have it ask for rhonda and she can order it for next day. Captain quarters is a great place as well only down side is he does close for winter. Franklin outdoors is another great place ive been there myself.

Franklin Outdoors gets 1.5 thumbs down from me since they changed hands. They'd get 2 thumbs down if it wasn't for the smoke free atmosphere these days.

W & W Novelty on Lakeside Dr. in Lynchburg has a big selection if you're in that area. A lot of firearm stuff too.

If you're going there for knowledge....you'll have better luck asking people on here...you'll get reports from all sides of the lake.
