Weather: Sunny, light breeze, temps in upper 50's and dropping quick as the sun set
Water: 63 where I fished - saw 57-65 as I was riding around looking for bait
Techniques: silver dollar & dollar-bill gizzards on freeline (3) & light-line (2) planers and light-lines (2)
Got out on the water right at 1pm to try and catch some bait to prep for Sunday - hoping to have time to fish some before dark. Started in my creek and found tons of silver dollar gizzards in 15-25' of water. Put around 2 dozen in the tank and then headed off to try and and find some bigger bait in another creek. Checked out a few creeks, working my way up the lake and either did not find much bait or nothing larger. About 4pm I decided I had something to work with and headed back down the lake to find a creek to wrap up the day.
I got setup and pulling boards around 4:15 or so - pulled down a bank in a creek were I've had good luck in November and I found the fish were right where I expected them to be..... Had one nail my middle bank-side board - and just as I get him in the boat a light-line burries over to kick off the day with a double!
I circled back around on that spot but no more action so kept on heading down... crossed a point and a small little guy decided he wanted a snack.
Keep on keeping on when all heck broke loose..... a fish boiled on the bank-side board and then slammed that bait, and as I get the rod into my hands another board goes off.... and then a light-line..... triple - chaos - love it!
Managed to get two of the three into the boat..... but they made an incredible mess of everything - had to cut hooks, swivels and retie everything on the bank side. Cost me 15 min or so and by the time I got things sorted out I questioned if the magic hour had passed..... but I decided to put some baits out and keep on pulling till I could not see my boards.....
Reached the end of my stretch and wanted to see if a fish was holding on the point...... yep
Got that one to the boat & released and reeled everything in - 6 of 7 fish to the boat in an hour and a half - nothing bit - largest was 30" but was a lot of fun. I hung out in the creek a while tossing the net to try and see if I could find some bigger bait - did manage one but then the rest was more silver dollars - if these things make it to next year we're going to be covered up in some big bait. Added a few to replace those used and headed back to the slip - ready to brave the freezing temps to start Sunday AM.
