Was excited to fish the first time in a month even with the the super Moon and blue skies. Had a buddy and his brother comin up. The brother was excited for his first striped. Ended up being one of our toughest trips in 3 years. Bait was really tough. Everything we could find was 20 -30 feet deep. They never came up into the shallows. I am ill equipped to catch deep bait. Gonna fix that this week hopefully. We pulled a lot of shoreline only having 2 Dollar bill shad And a couple dozen TINY ales. Finally hooked up late on Saturday put the brother on it and it came unbuttoned right at the boat. Did catch a smallmouth . First one I've seen in person. Oh well that's why it's fishing not catching.

Thanks for the report - you'll get them next time - the cold snap has pushed a lot of the bait out of the shallows. We had a smallmouth eat a 9 or 10" shad today...... rather catch them than their green-cousin's any day
