We headed out a little later in the morning this week with plans to fish later into the afternoon. Water temp was 64-65 with light variable winds. My buddy Danny got us some quality baits right off the bat with an assortment of dollars, money makers and even a couple mongos, meanwhile all I could manage was a 2lb green fish and a 10lb snapping turtle in my net. We pulled 2 planers each and I had 1 down rod at about 12ft. There wasnt much action for the first couple hours other than some nervous. Finally my down rod got slammed and the fight was on. Luckily I learned my lesson from last week and upgraded my hooks so this one stayed buttoned up and taped out at 33". The rest of the day was pretty slow with me missing 1 hookset and Danny having a couple pull downs but nothing solid. Til next week tight lines.

Nice fish, I quit running more than 2 rods off my kayak. You'll find out one day when that big striper swims circles through all your lines out.

This ine tried his best to get me all tangled up but i lucked out. I figure what the hay, losing fish happens but cant lose em to a tangled mess unless you get hooked up. My feelings will probably change as soon as I do lose one like that though hahaha

I usually run 4 rods; 2 floats, 1 planer and a down rod. Most of the time I get the fish in without tangling the other lines, but if it is windy or the fish decides to swim in circles it can be a mess. These are usually 3-8 lb fish out of Kerr, so I'm not sure what a SML monster would do (although I'd like to find out). Are you kayakers using shad and a 5 gal pail as a bait tank? I usually buy jumbo minnows and have pretty good luck on Kerr, but not sure they would work very well on SML. Thanks

Thanks Yeah we cast net gizzards and i use a 5 gallon gatorade cooler with a bilge pump to keep fresh water coming in. 4 rods would be max on the kayak and itd have to be flat calm to try that. It takes a lot of forethought to put out a trolling spread on a kayak Ive come to realize. If you get a snagged line it can be a long process to get everything back out without screwing up and ending up with a mess of tangles
