Great day on the water yesterday. Put in at Hardy Ford at about 8:30 AM. Found small shad easy as they were quite thick around the corner, put one out free and another down. The late morning wasn't productive. After the wind dropped out a bit in the afternoon I managed 3 fish and missed another. 2 on the free line and 2 on the down line (10 feet or so). All 3 were between 28-29 inches. Better than I'm used to at Buggs!
Question for any of you that fish from a kayak, or sympathetic boat owners...
I would like to find some larger bait. I realize I'm probably quite limited casting the net from a kayak (works fine when the peanut shad are so thick and on top), not to mention limited travel distance over water. Any suggestions on where a fella might find some dollar bills without a power boat?
Great board by the way! Awesome info and extremely helpful. First post.
-Thanks

Welcome and great report.
Should be able to find some silver dollar to dollar bills around that same area - sometimes real shallow

I totally agree with Mward. Park your yak on shore and throw around areas that have shallow flats. A dock or some structure helps as well. The dollar bills are ridiculously plentiful everywhere.

Thanks for the reply fellas! I'll concentrate more shallow the next go round. Thought I'd post a vid of yesterday's catch and plug for good catch and release practices...

Nice job. Weve been lucky to get 1 fish a trip out of the kayaks lately. As for bigger bait, we paddle around looking for big flips in the backs of coves or shallow flats and usually end up with dollar bill to money maker sized though this sunday we lucked into some mongos. If you are goin out of hardy that shallow cove across from bayroc has produced as well as near that dock at the end of the boatramp cove on the right

Thanks bigd, I'll try those spots next time. Was hoping next time would be tomorrow, but it looks like they're calling for 10-20 mph winds while a front pushes through. May give it a try Saturday. Hope the front doesn't shut them down. Do you fellas usually go on the weekends?

Its the only guaranteed day we get out but I may go by myself on a weekday if work and weather permit.

Give me a shout, my name is Isaac. I hope to get up there there several times between now and the end of the year. Last week was my first time at SML, a friend on the board here was kind enough to show me around. He'd been telling me it was better than Buggs Island, he was right.

Hey Issac. I was in the skiff j16. You were pulling the ready rigs? And used thr 6 foot cast net. The bite would have been on if the boat traffic was less. On the weekday is definately the time to go. BTW my name is Neal.

I just got mine last week, learned about them from a fellow kayaker. Cabela's has a good deal on the pair of them here at half what they usually are. They pulled a money maker Saturday, even when it went berserk a couple times, and they let me hug the bank like I wanted to. They pick up a few leaves from time to time, and probably would not do as good as others if the leaves were bad.
