Weekend before the tournament my son and I finished building us a gizzard cage per the directions Primetime posted on this forum some time ago. Thanks Primetime , turned out great! We put it at our dock on Saturday and ended up loading about 25 dollar bills in it that afternoon. Sunday they looked great so I ran out and caught about 40 more and put them in it . We left and went home with the plan of not having to work my tail off Friday for bait for the tournament

Well I showed up Friday morning to find that only about 15 of them were still alive and they weren't looking real great so I let them go. I guess the water temps were still just to warm.
Headed out about noon in search of more bait. I was able to fill my tank pretty easily with about 40-45 dollar bills and one huge mongo .Had the pleasure of meeting several others on the forum here out looking for bait as well. it was nice meeting and talking with them.
Went back and started re doing all my leaders and hooks around 3:00 waiting on my team mate Don to show up. My wife was bringing my son up after work since he had school.
Don and I rode the boat up to the bridge for check in and talked with several others that were fishing. Nice to talk to people I had not seen in a while and meet new people.
Ran on back down lake and arrived at dock just as my wife was pulling in with dinner. After tending baits I crashed and had a hard time sleeping that night thinking about where to fish and all the thoughts tournament fishing brings.
We pulled into the back part of a creek we had decided to fish right at lines in time. Killed the motor and flipped the map screen to sonar and the screen was covered up with fish. We scrambled to get everything out and as I was setting the 3rd board out the first one crippled up and my son grabbed the rod and fish on! I scrambled to find the token card and write our team name on it while Carson was fighting the fish and Don was ready with net . Carson did a great job getting her to the boat , wasn't what we were looking for but first fish was in the boat by 7:15 , 26.5" . Released her and finished setting out the spread. 15 minutes later Carson was hooked up again and we boated our second fish which was 26.25 ". These fish totally smashed our baits and we were thinking it was gonna be game on !
Well by this time we weren't alone in this creek , maybe 8-9 boats and once the sun was up it just shut down the bite We pulled on out creek to main channel and pulled points with nothing. Our mongo never even got touched. By about 11:15 Carson decided since it was slow it was nap time and crashed for about a hour with sailor up on the deck.
After fixing lunch I decided to go load up with fresh bait and dump what we had. Luckily we were able to do that fairly quickly and made a run to a different area of the lake. We were marking scattered fish and were hoping we could pull a 30+ inch fish before pulling everything in at 3:00 to head to check in. Finally at 2:45 we had a light weighted planer get hit and were able to boat our 3rd fish of the day at 26.75 ". Oh well not what we needed but pulled in the spread and dropped sailor and the rods off at the house on the way to check in.
We enjoyed the day none the less and enjoyed socializing at the check in. Congrats to all the teams that placed and to the ones that didn't ( us included ) better luck next time. I enjoyed watching everyone ( youth included ) enjoying and sharing the love of striper fishing. Thank you to Mike , all the striper mafia team , and sponsors , for another outstanding tournament.
See you all in December !!!
