Got over to the lake Thursday night. Before dark. Loaded up the tank with three dozen dollar bills to money makers. Woke up early and added a few dozen medium to large ales and 3 blue backs.
Out at 6:30 pulling free line boards lite lines a down and a free line float. Started on main channel points. Moved to a creek. Up lake main channel points didn't get a sniff. Maybe one or two nervous baits. Moved again to another creek. Finally about10:30 hooked up with a 29". It was a great hit. Swirled the bait up actually smacked it up in the air a few times leaving it stunned on the surface then came up and slurped it down in eye sight. Pulled further into the creek and nothing really materialized. Moved again, out to the main channel, started pulling points. It was about noon and a group of fish started breaking about 30 yards out in the channel. It was great to see some signs of life finally. Turned to em and had a board go off on the bank side. Gone before I got to the rod. Kept pulling and was seeing fish swirl here and there. Finally had a swirl 5 or then yards in front a board. Chased up the bait and hit it moving forward taking my board toward the front of the boat. Didn't get the slack out and missed it. As I was bringing that line in a blueback got hit with no warning and was hooked up by the time I got to the rod. Got him in went 31". The fish seemed to be in deep water but feeding shallow. Picked up two smallmouth on a shallow off an island I was fishing around 19" and 21". Both put up a good enough fight to think they were stripers until they jumped. Fished until about 3 missing another in shallow water. Things died down and didn't have another move in me.
Got back and took a nap. Over the day my tank had really clouded up. Changed the water before my nap. Came back down and the water was worse. Decided to dump everything and go get fresh bait. Wasn't going to use ales since they didn't get a sniff so I loaded up with money makers and dollar bills. Put about 4 dozen in the tank and called it a day.
Up the next morning and decided to wait a little bit because of the full moon and lack of early action the day before.
Wife and son had come over Friday night and son was supposed to go with but changed his mind last minute. He must have had a feeling. Started where I saw the action the day before about 7:45. Pulled for a while didn't get a nervous bait. Moved up river, same. Moved to a large creek- same. Moved to main channel points toward the house. No dice. It was about noon and decided to call it a weekend and go watch WVU play. Saturday was probably the slowest day I've had since I got my bait tank. Didn't even have a nervous bait.
Water temp pretty steady at 68 both days.
