AT 66-70 something WT 76-77 Overcast -Showers-Windy at times 10-20 mph. Perfect striper weather you would think. I checked 6 different lights before finding one with medium to large ales. I fishing down lines for the morning. Marked scattered fish here and there. Quite a few fish would follow my baits. I ended up with a 7lb. striper and a 4 lb. largemouth. Lost one halfway to the boat, as well as several pull downs. Even though fishing was slow for me this morning, it was a joy to be out. Next time I go I will bring some long pants. Burr! I could have used one of Lunds paint can cocktails when I got home. 😉

Those look like fish screaming for a uRig...... You are probably right. First trip with the bait tank and net in the boat since last spring caused me to have a one track mind. I've got to be more versatile!

Nice!!!! glad you got out. Looks like a bunch more fish laying on the bottom also that didn't come up...... Can I ask you a question? Ok, thanks ..... is there a reason you have your bait so shallow? .... the ones that came up were probably to tired to eat after swimming that far ..... you can see in your second shot, the majority of the fish said, ah heck with that, I ain't going no further. It is fact, if they want it they will come get it.... I have called them up to the surface with a rattle bait from pretty deep at night. It has been my experience though, that the ones that swim that far more often than not, don't take a bait... They are very competitive when it comes to bait (and females during the spawn). You had them interested, and when they are schooled, if you can get a few to come the rest will usually follow.... Oh, and welcome to the R side. But don't let the mafia boss on our side catch ya. (I won't say his name in public for fear of what he would do, but some call him Mr. Wolfpack) ....Unlike the mafia boss on your side, ours is pretty mean. He once caught me singing little red corvette and he pee'd in my bait tank..... even worse than that, he caught me talking to gator (who is lunds hit man) one time and he threw mongos in my tank!!!! ..... One or two is usually about all we catch when we get out.... there are waaay more fish on the BW side.

Bigun, no excuses just inexperienced with bait fishing. I welcome any and all information that can help me catch fish. I am like a blind squirrel when it comes to fishing. I find an acorn every once in a while. I honestly thought the fish at that depth would be the most active....20 feet because the bait I saw was close to that, and ones in trees and on the bottom were having a rest. The wind was moving me pretty fast from time to time and I went over some trees close to that depth. I got lazy and didn't make the adjustment even to the 20 ft. mark.
So I gotta know since you sang little red corvette an he pe'ed in the bait tank do we all have to call you Prince Bigun???😉

You caught bait and found the fish, those are the 2 most important things.... you will be lined out in no time. No doubt, the fish were there because there was bait there. When the fish are deep, your graph is the most important tool you got. The fish weren't actually at 20', a few came up to look at 20, but the fish were down next to the bottom in the most cofortable zone for them at the time. It's not about where they are, it's more about where they came from in this case.... even if somewhat inactive, if you drop bait down on them and just get one to eat, oft times will turn the rest on. I've been called a lot worse, but bigun is fine .

Hey Drag these crazy fish when hungry will come blasting out of the trees in 70-80 feet of water and come up after bait 4 foot under a float or 6ft behind a planer. Had it happen many times. You had some active fish there and probably some white perch mixed in. Those sneaky little pests will constantly pull on your bait and raise your heart rate.
