Knowing the Roanoke side would be stirred up from holiday traffic as well as the wind I decided to go fishing anyway. Water was rough my girlfriend said.... I put in at penhook and to my surprise the WT was 79.5. We marked scattered fish and dropped out two u-rigs. While putting the second line out the first loaded up, fish on. I was getting ready to swap places with my girlfriend and the fish came off. Brought the u rig in an the leader had came apart , jig gone. Around thirty minutes later hooked up again. Skunk was officially off the boat. We got the other line in and went back to the starting point because there was no way to cross the channel without getting ran over while trolling. Next pull we hooked up close to the same spot. I told my girlfriend to stop the boat and get the other line in, because it felt like a nice fish. A pontoon saw the action and stopped to watch us. The fish came up to the surface about 50 ft. behind the boat and I felt the reel come off in my right hand....dang rod seat broke. Fish was still on so I hand lined it. It was still pulling hard, got cuts to prove it. Line went limp ten foot or so under the boat, fish straightened the jig out. Cracked reel seat and a pulled wire leader. I always say stripers will find any weak link in your equipment. We made two more pulls one hook up, lost halfway to the boat, and a good strike that pulled drag a few seconds. We dropped five down lines with cut bait for about an hour with no love. Came off the lake at dark, not sure but I thought I saw shad slinger taken his boat out, but never got to speak to the guy to find out for sure.

Yes sir I was there. Don't feel bad. I had a messed up evening as well. Intended on doing some flathead fishing last night. Front anchor came untied and lost before I even got all the rods out on the first setup. So we had to quit before we ever got started. I assume you were the blue boat I believe with the lady in it.

Sorry to hear about your anchor slinger. I had one come lose like that twenty years ago on the Roanoke side, couldn't reach it in time as the last bit of line went over. Yes, lady friend was with me. Hard to tell in low light at the ramp, but the boat is black and white.
