I am interested in hearing how you hook your baits to prevent the hook from spinning around and double hooking or foul hooking the baits. This happens to me occasionally with gizzards but certainly not enough that I believe it is a problem. My problem comes with ales. I have tried hooking through the mouth and and out between the nostrils an from nostril to nostril. Both methods seem to have a fairly high failure rate. Recently I have taken a very small piece of rubber and placed it over the hook point but I somehow believe this may look unnatural and think there must be a better, more effective way to prevent this from happening.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I haven't found a way to prevent it. I missed a couple this weekend due to turned hooks in alewives.
I thought it came from using an oversize hook. However the hooks I used this weekend we're #2, certainly not oversized for alewives.
The soft rubber beads do help, but even they don't stop it entirely.

Agree with johnr I think I have tried everything from clear dental bands to tied mono to plastic worm snubbers and nothing seems to work.

Would a weedless hook help? I have seen them in circle and standard styles. Just throwing it out there....
