Sometimes when we are running our boards usually 4 bank side with some good distance from the boat my son will get on the bow and throw lures bank side usually a good 45 degrees in front of the boat. Since the reason we run the board is not to spook the fish with the boat I often wonder if this has adverse effects. We have not caught a fish on the boards when he does this but I have no real way to know if this is the reason. Does anyone do this or have any thoughts. Thanks

I run boards to get more coverage over water than I could pulling lines immediately at or behind the boat - I guess it could be less "spooky" especially when up in shallower water, but I see it more about coverage and access (working a bank, etc).
I know we've cast to fish that are messing with a bait but just won't eat and have hooked up - of course this is after the fish is chasing a bait. On rare occasion we'll cast ahead - mainly on VERY slow days..... don't think I've every hooked up doing so - but can't say it has or has not prevented a fish on the board in the process.

I agree... cast away. Who knows what impacts it might have on the fishing. But I do know that if my father had made me be quiet or kept me from trying out things when we were fishing, I wouldn't have loved fishing with him. I also know that the biggest striper ever caught on my boat was caught when I was kurplunking a 2 oz spoon all over the place in front of an 8 board spread.

Oh I would never make him stop He just loves playing with that bait caster too much and burns up a lot of our data on youtube videos on different casting techniques. I agree it does give them something to do he cast and daughter controls the TM. Only having a year under our belt I think I tend to overthink things because it is always in the back of your head am I doing something wrong.. or is the fishing tough. That is the best thing about Monday's is to compare my experience with reports posted by other members. I do appreciate all of the help, this site is a wealth of knowledge and I hope to give back one day.

Count your blessings.. my nieces like to swim on one side of the boat while I pull boards on the other side of the boat... I am pretty sure the cannonballs off the bow affect the fishing
