Talking about alewife. I went down to the dock to see what was lurking in the water and holy smokes. I have always had shad, but not a load like this. I didn't see any over 6" but dang. I'll trade 1000 alewife for 12 nice gizzards.

Curious - what type of submerged light is that and how deep?

It's called FishnLight. Bought it at the Tampa boat show back in Dec. It's 600 watts. It is 12 ft at the end of my dock and I have the light about 4 to 5 ft from the bottom. www.fishnlight.com/

Wife asked "Why in the world do you want to pay that much to put a light in the water?". Well, guess who want to put a second light on the other side of the dock?

No issues yet. I don't think very many people have found it yet. I have been trying to think of a way to prevent it from happen.

Maybe some type of weighted cage over it that isn't attached to any part of the light? Dome shaped so that a net possibly doesn't attach to it? Just my 2 cents.

Something like a tripod to go over the light so the net will just slide up and over. Bend the arms at the top back down a little and leave the top open so the weights of the net does not get wedged in the top of the tripod.

Or move it slightly under the dock, I am sure you would get same results.

I think smlmike has the right idea. It might be a little tricky without getting in the water but I'm sure you could figure out a way. That way it should bring bait to your dock and still be protected from cast nets. Good luck.

I hang my light right next to one of the large posts of the dock so no-one will net it.
