It's time to submit your 2015 Angler Diaries to Dan Wilson @ DGIF - deadline is the end of the month. Remember that those who submit receive a "bounty", but more importantly you are helping contribute important data used in the management of the fishery.
If you've not kept a log before, please consider doing so in 2016 - they do not take much time to keep each trip - and "non-catching" trips are just as important to log as those where you catch a bunch. You can obtain logs directly from DGIF or you can pick one up at the Striper Club meetings.

Hey Mike -
I plan to fish SML a LOT in the coming year. Is there a format or best tips and practices for doing this somewhere?
I would like to contribute would just like to know what information I need to capture and maybe a couple of suggestions on how folks keep this information compiled across a full year.

The Angler Log from DGIF is pretty simply - a row per trip, you log the following:
Month Day # of Anglers Hours fished Time of day (Day, Night, both) Bait Type (Live, Artificial, both) # Harvested (and lengths of each) # Released (and lengths of each)
The DGIF book has carbon copies so you can pull you the copy and keep for your records and then mail the rest of the book back to Dan and he'll tally. I've also created a spreadsheet for the info that will drop right into Dan's master spreadsheet to make his life easier... and I just capture all mine in there and send that along vs. sending the book.
If anyone wants the spreadsheet, drop me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send it to you.
