HI everyone -- A question please for the experts out there. Any tips on how to stay on the school after you have caught a couple? How far do they go, do they scatter when you catch a few, do you usually go 'upstream' or 'downstream' when you are looking for them (after you lose them)
As you can tell, I have caught a few jigging fish, but cannot seem to stay in contact with the school long enough to catch more than one or two.
Thanks for the help!

I have never been able to stay on a moving school unless I have sky sonar.

If you can find someone that can answer that accurately have them write a book. Lol. I've been trying for 40 years to answer that question. All I can tell you is they are eating machines. Follow the bait. The game biologists tagged a big striper in Santee Cooper back in the 70s. They determined that fish moved 8-10 miles some days and not more then a mile on others. They never got a conclusive pattern over a period from late May (post spawn) to mid December.

I always chuckle when someone poses a question for the experts (plus, I like to see who answers ).... everyone on here is in the same boat when it comes to these fish...some are luckier, some are more experienced....some just plain fish more than others......but I can promise you, these fish leave all of us scratching our head sometimes. .....Gotta pick your battles when it comes to jigging..... usually by now the fish aren't flying around as much.... when the water gets colder (if it ever does this winter).... the fish won't be flying around as much..... that's when you can load the boat jigging....... on your best day, when they are flying around.... you are lucky if you get back on a school more than once.... mward is the closes thing we have to an expert yep, I'm bragging on him .... if it won't for him, we would never get to read a report. evidently, hardly anyone else on here ever catches any fish...... yam, I know you are dead after a 30 like a dog in heat, but dangit, it doesn't have to be a 30lber for you to post a report.... don't make me come out of my tree stand with only 3 days left to hunt next week and chase you down for picking up my planner board.

How funny! I posted my first report in months earlier today. I am getting some type of itching sensation all over my body having to stay inside for the holidays. All I got right now is my videos and this forum to relieve my itch... if only for a minute. I'm sad to say I haven't broke 20 all Fall. However, the fish over 15 pounds are very fat and I have to believe I released my future goal sometime this last fall. Stay in your tree stand.....

Ha. No expert here. Just someone that fishes as much as he can get away with and posts up the successes and non-successes..... As to staying on the schools - I find the best way to do that is to make sure the gas tank is full when leaving the dock

Thanks everyone -- I don't feel so bad now! I found a school this morning and dropped a spoon in there -- I think they thought it was something from another universe as they scattered not to be found again.
Strike one!

Sidescan transducer on the trolling motor is your best bet.
