12/11 My nephew and I hit the water around 8:00 am for his first striper trip ever. We looked for bait and found plenty of small stuff and perch.
I didn't want Jay to get bored while I looked for bigger bait. So we just fished with the small bait. Found some fish and dropped out 4 light
planer. 2 light floats and 1 down line. It wasn't long before a float went down and my nephew started to grab the rod and set the hook and I said,
remember wind it some in the rod holder before picking it up and sweep it. He played his fish to the boat with an ear to ear grin and as I netted the
26 inch striper he said, it was his largest fish plus his first striper. Happy young man. We baited the line back up and went about 30 yards further
and the outside planer dropped out of sight with the reel buzzing from a strong surge. I snatched up the rod and fought this one in. It was a good fish
on a peanut gizz at 31.5 inches. Then while I was putting the planer back out another float went down. Jay grabbed the rod and played the fish
up close to the boat and that last run when it saw the boat it came unbuttoned. That's fishing I told him. As fast as the action started it stopped,
although we were still marking fish. Quick story about Karma. As we were putting the lines out at the start of our pull, there was 20-25 yards between
the bank and the bank planer. This guy came from behind me between the bank and my planer and passed us at a fast idle. He then stopped at
the point ahead where I had intended to pull across. The funny thing was that all three hookups came in front of him and his lower lip was on the bow.
Serves the turd right. Not many fish for the morning but fun none the less.
12/12 Today my girlfriend and I started out fishing the same area that I fished Friday with the bait that was left. Same set up as before 4 light planers
2 light floats and 1 down line. First hookup came on the inside planer and it came unbuttoned halfway in. A short ways the down line rod bowed
and fish on. The fish got down in the trees and broke off, two quick loses. The third one was the charm on a float, 27 inches. Not to far down the bank
another float went down and I brought this one in , another 27 incher. Then another 27 on a float. So we turned around for another pass and never got
got a sniff. Five hookups, 1 broke off, 1 unbuttoned and three cookie cutter 27 inch fish. It was getting warm so we ended the day.
